Trees down, Parking Signs twisted off, Windows blown out, and the list goes on. Forest Hills looked like a War Zone that Nature Attacked. I saw a street sign, you know, with  the angle iron and the tiny holes in the center, and this metal post was twisted a few degrees. It looked like Superman took 2 hands, and twisted it in the opposite directions, causing it to have a twist turn to it. And this twist started 4 feet up the pole. I don’t know if the Tornado did it, but I have never saw a street sign post twisted like this one. A street sign next to it was snapped off, but I could not see where on the pole it snapped.I have never seen anything like this. This made any Hurricane we ever had look like a cake walk. Scaffoldings were strewn all over the Place. More than just a strong gust of wind. This episode lasted approx. 2-3 minutes, according to witnesses. A man in the Barber Shop on 71st. Rd. in Forest Hills felt pressure in his ears as it struck, and Glass was all over the place, as well as street signs, etc. Emergency Vehicles were all over with their lights Flashing. It was really everyone for themselves and friendly neighbors, because if you would have needed Emergency Services of any kind, they would have been too busy responding to downed power lines, etc. In addition, Cell Phone service was intermittent. Wait till there is a longer, sustained catastrophe, Everyone will really have a tough time, and have to rely on the person next to them for help, as Emergency Services will really be jammed up. Most could not get down the streets, due to Trees that weighed tons blocking them.

Traffic was at a stand still, and people were taking pictures and talking about the Tornado.

I don’t know if the National Weather Service have confirmed this as a Tornado that struck Forest Hills, But if they do, I believe this will be the first Tornado on record, that has ever Twisted through Forest Hills.

Downdraft of 125 mph wind, initially 1.5 mile wide, expanding to 2.5 miles wide and 8 miles long. It was a Huge Path of Destruction!

From listening to the Weather this morning, it appears that there was enough rotation in the winds of this ‘storm,’ according to the Doppler Radar, and that the Forecasters are just waiting for The National Weather Service to Officially call what Crashed through Forest Hills and other areas a ‘Tornado.’
    Forest Hills 1st Tornado!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. transparnc Says:

Still waiting for the ‘Official Word’ from the National Weather Service.
    What’s taking so long??
It always takes them time to officially announce these things.
They have to walk around, look at pictures, speak with people, look at the damage, look for patterns of downed trees, look at the way the trees snapped. look at twisted metal, look at the Doppler, etc., etc.
Most likely, later today we will get the word.
Hopefully they’ll get to Forest Hills, and not just concentrate on Brooklyn. As I was looking at the news, Brooklyn was getting much of the attention regarding the ‘Tornado’, and then Forest Hills started to get noticed.
This may be because Brooklyn got hit first, and also Brooklyn had a previous Tornado, while Forest Hills Never had a Tornado Crash through it. So many in the media most likely thought Forest Hills just had some strong winds, until they started to further investigate.

1st Tornado touched down in Brooklyn first, an EF0

2nd Tornado touched down 1.5 South of Flushing, an EF1, with Max speeds of 100 mph.

A Micro Burst, which is an element of the Storm causing the Tornadoes, and The Most Dangerous in this day of weather events, slammed down on Forest Hills & Middle Village , with a Wind of 125 MPH,1.5 miles Wide, widening to 5 miles wide and then with a final 8 mile wide path of destruction. This Micro Burst was EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, and was the Most Dangerous of the events today, including the 2 Tornadoes, due to the Highest Impact and Largest Path of Destruction it took. In addition, I addition, this Macroburst lasted

Imagine a 125mph wind with an initial Destructive 1.5 mile wide path, expanding to 5 miles wide and 8 miles long!!
In comparison, the 2 Tornadoes had a 75 -100 yard wide path which was 2 miles long……….
